Expectations
Students should work to the best of their ability, take pride in their work, and take ownership of their learning and of their actions. Successful students attend school regularly, have a desire to succeed in math, complete homework, and participate in all class activities.
Grading
Grading in this class is determined by total points earned divided by total points available. Below shows the range of point values for assignments in each category.
Home Work
This class has nightly math practice. All practice problems assigned should take no more than 20 minutes to complete.
Tests
Tests are announced at least a week in advance. If a student is absent the day before a test or on a test day, he/she should be prepared to take the test immediately upon his/her return to school. As a general rule students are not allowed to retake tests or quizzes.
Grades
The best way to maintain a good grade in math is to complete and turn in all assignments on time, study for tests and quizzes, and ask for help or tutoring when needed. Students should be concerned about grades the entire quarter and not just at the end of the grading period.
Extra Credit
No special extra credit assignments will be given to students on an individual basis nor will any student be allowed to make up any missing work at the end of the quarter in hopes of improving his/her grade.
Late Work
All assignments should be turned in on time. Under special circumstances late work will be accepted, but expect only partial credit to be given.
Make-up Work
The student is responsible for getting all missed work due to an absence. Please refer to the student handbook regarding make-up work policies for excused and unexcused absences. Students with an excused absence have 2 days to get make-up work completed and turned in for each 1 day they are absent.
Leaving the room for the restroom and/or a drink of water.
Students will not be given permission to get a drink of water during class. Please bring a water bottle and fill it up before or after class.
Per school policy students are not allowed to use the restroom the first 10 minutes or the last 10 minutes of class. Students also are not allowed to leave the room without a pass. As a general rule I will not deny a student the use of the restroom during class. However, if the student asks to go to the restroom 3 or more times in one week, then I will contact his/her parents regarding the issue.
Discipline Policy
No student has the right to interfere with the learning of others in this class due to inappropriate behavior or not being prepared for class.
Consequences for behavior include:
1. A verbal warning by the teacher and this may be accompanied by a seat change within the classroom.
2. A teacher-student conference discussing the unacceptable behavior, its cause, and its resolution.
3. Parent/guardian contact via letter, telephone call or email regarding the behavior in question.
4. A guidance referral to discuss the unacceptable behavior, its cause, and its resolution
5. A discipline referral to the office. With severe behavior resulting in immediate removal from class accompanied by a referral.
Consequences for not completing work or failing to turn work in on time
1. Student will complete a failure to complete work form or "pink slip" and this will be recorded in focus for the assignment
2. A teacher-student conference discussing the issue, its cause, and possible solutions.
3. Parent/guardian contact via letter, telephone call or email regarding the issue in question.
4. An academic referral
